- "I have been assured that Rhys is a brilliant student, and I believe his studious nature will be put to use learning everything he needs to know. I have also been told how sweet and tender a young man is. He is kind and gentle, and is quite capable of being a good obedient boy." As Ms Skye said this she put a hand on my side and slowly let it drift down to my waist, all the while keeping her eyes on mine and smiling in a slightly more than friendly way.
- "Those are qualities important in all students that I allow to take my class, but they are necessary in any man I would let join in my lessons. If Rhys maintains and demonstrates these qualities, and considering his extremely special circumstances, then I am willing to make an exception for him and allow him to join this class." Ms Skye declared, giving her hand on my waist a light squeeze before withdrawing it.
- The teacher's full argument as to why I should be allowed to be in the class calmed most of the open anger in the room at my presence. But most of the girls still looked uncomfortable with me being there, and there was the sense that I still wasn't welcome in the space. Ms Skye might have permitted my presence, but it wasn't going to be enjoyed. I still had no idea why this class was segregated by gender, or why the girls were so uncomfortable with me being there. Still, I had to appreciate the teacher's efforts, since at least there wasn't much open hostility targeted my way anymore.
